    The Oil Painting Book: Written by Bill Creevy and published by Watson-Guptill Publications, this is the best how-to book we have ever seen regarding oil painting. The first half of the book discusses materials and tools. Paints, oil sticks, mediums, solvents, varnishes, supports, grounds, brushes and other tools are all discussed in detail. The second half of the book describes techniques with clear, easy to follow instructions and good photographs. A very informative work.

    Hilary Page's Guide to Watercolor Paints: Written by Hilary Page and published by Watson-Guptill Publications, this tome is the book that helped us decide which brands of watercolor The Art Box would carry. Every color from all the major brands available in America was tested for lightfastness, responsiveness, staining properties, etc. This definitive work casts light into the murky, often confusing world of paint choices.

    Jo Sonja's Guide to Decorative Painting: Written by Jo Sonja Jansen and published by Watson-Guptill Publications this book is the most complete decorative painting resource ever assembled in one volume. The book includes an illustrated history of decorative painting, a thorough review of tools and equipment used, and plenty of information about techniques.

    Modeling the Figure in Clay: Sculpture by Bruno Lucchesi, text and photos by Margit Malmstrom. This longtime best seller tells how a famous sculptor creates a complete figure in clay. Published by Watson-Guptill Publications.

    The Sumi-E Book: Written by Yolanda Mayhall and pubished by Watson-Guptill Publications/ This ancient Japanese technique is ideal for teaching art to the beginner because the student is quickly able to create successful pictures with four basic brushstrokes. Mastery of Sumi-e leads to new levels of creativity. Clear illustrations make this an easy to use guide.

    Patinas for Silicone Bronze: This informative book was written by Patrick V. Kipper, and published by Rodgers & Nelsen Publishing Co.. Considered by many to be the bible for those doing bronze work, it is chock full of recipes and photographs to help the bronze artist achieve just the right finish for a piece of sculpture.

    The Watercolor Book: Written by David Dewey, this extensively illustrated volume is one in the series of thorough how-to books published by Watson-Guptill Publications. Tools, paints, materials and techniques are all discussed in this wonderful book.

    Throwing Techniques: One in the series of Ceramics Class books, this book reviews the preparation of clay mixtures, discusses kneading methods, plasticity and shrinkage, and then demonstrates basic throwing exercises at the wheel. The artist is taught to create open bowls and plates, vertical and cylindrical pots, spherical and oval jars and specially shaped cups and jugs. Published by Watson-Guptill Publications.
