Gamblin Artist's
Oils: Gamblin Artists Colors Co. is dedicated
to oil painting. The only art materials manufacturer in the
world making only oil painting materials, Gamblin
Artists Colors has earned a reputation for quality and
value. Gamblin makes colors from three eras of pigment history.
The oldest colors on the palette come from the earth. Iron
oxides yield muted reds, yellows and browns, and carbon makes
strong blacks. During the Industrial Revolution inorganic
pigments became available. These compounds of minerals gave
artists cobalts, cadmiums and manganese colors. Modern organic
pigments include the quinacridones, pthalo, hansa, napthol
and perylene colors. These pigments are often much stronger,
less expensive and more lightfast than the mineral colors.
For twenty years, Gamblin has invested in the best quality
production machinery that transforms the finest quality pigments
and oils into luscious, rich artist's colors. Gamblin's primary
focus is to provide top quality paint to artists while ensuring
their safety from health hazards. Gamblin's paints, mediums
and solvents are the basis of "The Safe Studio". One of Gamblin's
crowning achievements is the creation of a Flake White replacement
that works and looks just like traditional Flake White but
contains no lead. This undertaking is typical of the effort
Gamblin puts into ensuring that all of it's products are safe
and enjoyable to use. Professional artists will find that
they do not have to compromise on quality to enjoy a Safe
Studio. Made in USA. The Art Box carries sets and open
stock.
Schmincke's
Mussini Resin Oils: In early 1880, Professor Cesare
Mussini of the Academy in Florence, was thought to be the
last person still preserving the lost formulas for the resin
oils of the Old Masters. In 1881, Mr. Josef Horadam and Mr.
Hermann Schmincke, two chemist colormen from Germany, travelled
to Florence and purchased the recipes. Returning to Germany,
they began manufacturing fantastic resin oils at great expense.
They named the paints Mussini Resin Oils in honor of Professor
Mussini.
From these auspicious
beginnings came Schmincke's finest oil paint, the incredible
Mussini line which includes 118 tones and 36 transparent colors.
The line represents the synthesis of traditional recipes and
modern research work to recreate the paint of the renaissance.
High quality artists' pigments are bound with linseed and
sunflower oils and varying proportions of natural resin solutions.
Properly balanced drying time allows durable, tension-free
color layers. Yellowing is reduced due to the reduction of
fatty oils. Mussini Resin Oils can be used for painting
fine layers, transparency, alla prima and for knife painting
techniques. Mussini Resin Oils may be mixed with all
other artists' oil colors. The Art Box carries sets
and open stock.
