Watercolor
Paper: The Art Box carries Arches
watercolor sheets in the 22"x30" size in 90 lb., 140 lb. and
300 lb. weights. In sheet stock, we carry the cold pressed
surface. (In blocks, we have Cold and Hot Pressed and Rough.)
Arches papers are 100% rag, mould made, pure white,
and perfectly sized. We also carry handmade watercolor sheets
from Moulin de Larroque in 9"x13" and 12"x17" sizes.
Each sheet is formed by hand, individually couched, pressed
and dried. All Larroque papers are made of cotton or
linen rag culled from the French garment industry. Some papers
are delicately embellished with seeds, flowers and grasses.
Pastel Paper:
Mi-Teintes pastel paper sheets from Canson
are 19"x25". This is a classic French pastel paper with a
unique surface grain. The sheets are acid-free, and gelatin
sized with a high rag content. They are impervious to light
and are ideal for oil or soft pastels, graphite, colored pencil,
gouache, watercolor or acrylic. Recommended for offset, advertising
printing, silk-screen and manual work. The Art Box
carries black and will have more colors soon.
Print Making
Paper: In addition to the Mi-Teintes Pastel paper
that may be used for printing (see description above), The
Art Box carries Stonehenge Printmaking Paper in
22"x30". This 100% rag, acid-free paper has a smooth, antique
vellum finish with a beautiful deckled edge.
Glassine:
The Art Box carries Canson-Talens glassine
sheets. The sheets are 24"x36", neutral pH, translucent white,
and can be used as slip sheets for storing artwork.
Drawing Paper:
The Art Box carries a wide range of drawing
papers in pads and spiral bound sketchbooks. Our smallest
pads are the little Lama Li pocket sketch books which
measure just 3"x4", and our largest are Strathmore's Newsprint
at 18"x24". Surfaces vary too, from the extra smooth Bienfang
bristol, to the toothy Sennelier D340 Carte d'art.
We stock some very unusual items, such as the square Le
Maxi Block sketch pads that come 250 sheets to a pad in
sizes 6"x6", 10"x10" and 12.5"x12.5", and Kolo's linen
covered sketchbooks. We have such a broad assortment, it is
hard to list them all. We have products from all the following
manufacturers: Sennelier, Bienfang, Canson,
Kolo, Strathmore, Jack Richeson, Cachet
and others. If we don't stock your favorite paper, we can
probably special order it.
Watercolor
Paper: Watercolor paper comes in such a range of
qualities that it can be hard to know which to choose for
any given situation. While student papers may be an inexpensive
way to start painting, they tend to handicap the user right
from the start. A good quality paper will hold up to repeated
scrubbing and glazing, whereas a cheap paper will start to
roll up after only a little rubbing. Because truly cheap papers
are so dissappointing, The Art Box doesn't carry them.
Even our lower priced papers can be counted on to be basically
sound and good to work with. On the other hand, the more you
spend on a sheet, the more pleasure it may bring, since some
of the most interesting and cooperative watercolor papers
are hand made on traditional moulds that leave the paper without
an obvious grain. If you haven't tried fine watercolor paper,
buy a sheet or two for yourself or someone special and see
how it can make you feel spoiled rotten. The Art Box
carries watercolor papers in blocks and pads from the following
companies: Arches, Sennelier, Winsor and
Newton, Canson, Daler Rowney, Bienfang,
and the incomparable Moulin de Larroque.
Charcoal
and Pastel Paper: The Art Box carries pastel
and charcoal papers from Sennelier, Strathmore,
Fabriano, Canson, Bienfang and Moulin
de Larroque. Some of the papers we carry are very unusual,
such as Sennelier's La Carte Pastel, a 200 lb., pH
neutral board, surfaced with finely ground vegetable flakes
and cork which yields a paper that is slightly abrasive yet
has a perfectly smooth and uniform tooth. Pigment adhesion
is so good that fixative is hardly needed. Sennelier's
C4 pastel pads are a beautiful gray felt paper ideal for
pastel and charcoal, and each page is interleaved with a glassine
sheet to protect artwork. Fabriano's Tiziano is acid-free
with a deep tooth and beautiful felt colors in pale blue,
rose grey, felt grey, steel grey, charcoal grey, and black.
Mouchette "Naturals" from Moulin de Larroque
are incredible hand made pastel papers in off-white with natural
inclusions.
Calligraphy
Paper: The Art Box carries lined calligraphy
practice paper from Bienfang. There are 50 sheets in
the 9x12 pad. Also from Bienfang, we have the Calligraphic
Parchment in the 8.5x11 pad of assorted colors. We carry
Strathmore's white 8.5x11 Calligraphy Paper.
Tracing Paper:
We carry an economical 25 lb. tracing paper from
Bienfang. Each pad contains 50 sheets. Made in USA.
The Art Box carries 9x12, 11x14, and 14x17 pads. Architectural

Gridded Paper:
The Art Box carries cross section paper in
a number of different paper and grid sizes. Our smallest pads
are 8.5x11 and our largest are 27x33.
Canvas Paper:
Canvasette paper is a handy substitute for
woven canvas. Fine for painting in oils, acrylics or casein,
it has a canvas-like surface, is primed and may be mounted,
stretched or used on the pad. Made in USA. The Art Box
carries 9"x12" pads.
Construction
Paper: Tru-Ray Construction Paper is heavy
weight, 50% recycled fade-resistant art paper. It has long,
strong fibers for a paper tough enough to take scoring, folding
and curling without cracking or tearing. Superior fade resistance
keeps projects brighter longer. 50 sheet packs. The Art
Box carries white and assorted colors. Paper size is 12x18.
Disposable
Palette Paper: Multi-Palette pads contain
disposable, individual palette sheets which are impervious
to oil, casein, and acrylic paints. The Art Box carries
50 sheet pads in sizes 9x12 and 12x16.
Rice Paper:
The Art Box carries three kinds of rice paper
sheets from Yasutomo. Each is 24"x36". Kasuiri
is a natural colored rice paper with brown flecks. It is suitable
for screen printing and ornamental work. Kozo is a
multi-purpose white rice paper. It is good for brush calligraphy,
Sumi-painting, block printing and hand-rubbing. Unryu
is a white rice paper with inlaid white fiber strands.
Pirate Books:
Lama Li papers are handmade in the mountains of Nepal
from the bark of the Lokta bush. Lokta is one of the strongest
fibers and produces a paper with a fine sheen with Lokta inclusions,
and deckled edges. These beautiful papers are bound up into
incredible handmade Pirate Books with sturdy covers
in vivid colors. Lokta paper has a smooth surface that will
accept most drawing media including pencil, ballpoint pen,
charcoal, pastel and marker. The Lokta plant regenerates new
growth in just a few years, helping to preserve the eco-system
of Nepal. Each Lama Li product is hand crafted by village
co-operatives that benefit directly from your purchase. The
Art Box carries Pirate Books in three sizes and
four colors.
Travel Journals:
Lama Li's Travel Journals are made from the
same incredible Lokta paper used to make the Pirate
Books. In addition, the Travel Journals have a cover that
wraps around the unbound edge of the paper for protection.
A bamboo clasp and an elastic strap keep the journal closed.
The Art Box carries Travel Journals in two sizes

Classic Leather
Journals: Lama Li's Classic Leather Journals
look like something Indiana Jones would carry. Filled with
the wonderful Lokta paper described under Pirate
Books, these journals are wrapped in rich brown leather
and stay shut with a wrap around leather tie. They seem so
exotic, you can imagine yourself in Egypt or Burma scribbling
away about the day's adventures. The Art Box carries
Classic Leather Journals in two sizes.
Memory Books:
These beautiful scrap books are the perfect showcase
for your collection of photos, matchbook covers and theatre
programs. Alternating cream and black handmade papers make
a lovely backdrop for your memories. Covers are deep blue
or jade green and made from the same Nepalese handmade dyed
Lokta paper.
Pocket
Notebooks: Lama Li's Pocket Notebooks
measure just 3"x4". The covers are made of handmade dyed Lokta
papers in brilliant colors like sunflower yellow, poppy, lime
green, blue grey (all with black bindings), and natural (with
cocoa bindings). Each has crisp creamy white paper with a
laid finish between its sturdy covers. The Art Box
carries all 5 colors.
Nepalese
Papers: These sturdy but incredibly thin sheets come
in some of the most vivid colors we have seen anywhere, like
deep rich purple, poppy red, and lime green. We also have
a terrific collection of journals, sketchbooks, pocket diaries,
and small photo albums bound with the same papers. Most have
a special closure like a wooden button or a bamboo reed that
slides into a perfectly cut slot. Very good prices make it
possible to take these treasures home.
Handmade
Canadian Paper: Made by St. Armand in Montreal.
These earthy papers are a joy to touch. Come by and check
out "Saskatchewan", "Peas" and "Moon and Stars". Many of these
beautiful papers are available as collections of notecards.
Foam Board:
Foam Board cuts easily and cleanly with a razor blade.
It is quite rigid and has an extremely smooth surface suitable
for drymounting. The Art Box stocks foam board in three
